Deyna Roberson Brookins

SI Coordinator, Triton Achievement Partners

Deyna is an advocate for underrepresented students and hopes to promote success for all students at the University of California San Diego. Deyna has experience mentoring, advising, and coaching students in both the primary, secondary and higher education setting.  Her experience working with students from diverse backgrounds has allowed her with the insight necessary to make decisions that will promote success for students from underrepresented backgrounds, communities, and ethnicities.  As a previous student of color at UC San Diego during her undergraduate career Deyna spent time on the Board of Black Student Union working on initiatives like the Black Book, BSU overnight program, and other tools and programs to recruit more students of color at UC San Diego while also working to retain them through intentional programming and community building events. Previous to her current SI Coordinator position, she served as the Revelle College Student Success Coach serving over 80 first generation college students by supporting them in their transition from high school to college.  In this program Deyna was able to collaborate with several departments across campus such as Housing and Dinning, Residential Life, CAPS, Student Retention and Affairs, Student Health, Oasis, and the Teaching and Learning commons.  Though these partnerships students were able to receive warm referrals to departments and services that could support them in their journey to success at UC San Diego.  In her role as the Academic Advisor and Diversity Coordinator at MIZZOU Deyna collaborated with several departments on campus such as Career Services, Study Abroad, Student Life, Admissions and Recruitment as well as several corporate sponsors and stake holders.  Through these partnerships Deyna was able to bring additional funding for scholarships, opportunities for internships and professional careers while building appropriate programs to recruit and retain underrepresented students in the College of Engineering.  Some of the programs Deyna oversaw or collaborated with that benefited from these partnerships are the Diversity Scholars program, Annual Career Fair, and the annual High School Summer Camp. 

Deyna is a Gallup Strengths Quest Certified Coach, formally trained in Supplemental Instruction practices, supervision and implementation and strives to use people’s strengths to helps them reach their full potential in their current role.

Deyna received her degree in Theater Arts (Pre-Med) from the University of California San Diego and participated in the first half of the Masters in Public Health Program with a focus on health promotion and behavioral science at San Diego State University.

Fun Fact: On her free time, Deyna enjoys hosting Harry Potter movie marathons, being active and outdoors, singing (preferably musical and Disney movies soundtracks), and spending time with her family.
