Melissa Damo

Experiential Learning Assistant Advisor

Melissa Damo is the Assistant Advisor for the Experiential Learning Hub. In this role, she provides support to the Academic Internship Program and Engaged Learning Tools, and is the first point of contact for UCSD students, faculty, staff, and external partners. Prior to entering UCSD, Melissa was the assistant to department chairs at National University, School of Business and Management. She earned her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, with concentrations in Communications, Women’s Studies, and Counseling/Social Change at San Diego State University.

Melissa’s experience in working with students began with her role as mentor at the Young Women’s Studies Club, a collaborative program between the Department of Women’s Studies at SDSU and nearby Hoover High School. She found a passion for empowering students from diverse and underrepresented communities, and credits her time in the YWSC as the catalyst to pursue a career in higher education. As a first generation college graduate, Melissa is particularly interested in supporting students holistically, and helping them make the most out of their experience while navigating through the complexities of the college system. Outside of work, Melissa enjoys hiking, listening to podcasts, and finding the best places to eat in the beautiful city of San Diego.
