Interested in Becoming a Learning Strategist?

The Academic Achievement Hub in the Teaching + Learning Commons hires learning strategists at UC San Diego to help students develop skills that address learning challenges while teaching the underlying metacognitive conditions that may contribute to these challenges.

Learning strategists are highly trained to help students achieve a greater awareness of how they learn and develop a growth mindset, which research shows improves students' knowledge, skills, and abilities for success.

Hiring Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student at UC San Diego
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 at UC San Diego.
  • Exceptional understanding and enthusiasm for the metacognitive techniques used in the learning strategies workshops and consultations.
  • Available to work one or more late afternoons and/or evening shifts on Mondays through Fridays, and/or on Sundays, for approximately 9-15 hrs/wk.
  • Responsible, dependable, honest, and mature.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Friendly, patient, and sensitive to a diverse range of students.

Professional Development

Learning strategists must attend a rigorous initial training program based on the concepts of LearnWell Projects prior to being scheduled to lead workshops or meet with students at UC San Diego. Ongoing training, provided by the Academic Achievement Hub is expected. All training hours are paid.

  • Please note: 
    • The Academic Achievement Hub hires learning strategists throughout the year; however, most hiring is done in spring quarter for the following academic year. 
    • We do hire learning strategists for UCSD summer sessions, as needed.
    • All applications will be reviewed, and those candidates that most closely match our hiring needs will be contacted for an interview.
    • Interviewing and hiring will be conducted on a rolling basis until all positions have been filled. 
    • Due to the large volume of applications received, we only contact applicants who are selected for interviews.
