The Student Activity Hub (SAH) combines information about undergraduate, graduate and professional students into a single repository. UC San Diego faculty and staff can securely access SAH through Tableau and Cognos. Learn more about the Student Activity Hub and request access to data here.
Individual-Level Student Data
Access to individual-level student data may be available to faculty and staff who have documentation of current FERPA training and IRB approval, when required, through UC San Diego's Human Research Protections Program (HRPP).
If you are considering using student data in a publishable study, IRB approval is also required.
a. FERPA - Confidentiality of Student Records and Privacy Rights
The university is legally and ethically obligated to protect the confidentiality of student records. To be granted access to data with personally identifiable and non-public information about students (e.g. grades or demographics), you must complete the FERPA - Confidentiality of Student Records and Privacy Rights course, which provides basic FERPA information for UC San Diego faculty and staff.
Under FERPA, uses of identifiable student data may include test development/administration, student aid program administration, instructional improvement, or other established educational interest.

If you are considering using student data in a publishable study, IRB approval is also required.
b. IRB - Institutional Review Board
If your research is intended for publication or presentation, you may need I
