Giving Opportunities
We invite you to invest in the next generation of students and educators at UC San Diego, by making a gift to the Teaching + Learning Commons. Your support is important to enable the Commons to provide the critical programs and services needed for UC Diego’s teaching and learning initiatives and its commitment to academic success for all students.
Student Academic Success
UC San Diego Summer Bridge Program
UC San Diego invites first-year, first-time UC San Diego admitted students who place into one of the following math courses; Math 2, Math 3C, Math 4C, Math 10A, or Math 20A to participate in the 8-week Summer Bridge program. During the program, students can earn up to 8 units of college credit (4 units of math and 4 units of analytical writing), develop academic skills and abilities to be successful at the university level, learn about campus resources, and build community with other Summer Bridge participants.
Your gift will help fund the cost for students to participate.
Professional Development and Training for Student Employees
The Teaching + Learning Commons employs over 200 undergraduate and graduate students per year as tutors, SI leaders, graduate teaching consultants, research assistants, and administrative support. All student hires undergo rigorous ongoing training for their jobs and are regularly provided with opportunities for professional development.
Academic Internships
Academic internships allow students to integrate academic theory and real-world practice, engage in research that explores the relationship between the two, and gain hands-on experience in professional settings. Costs of moving to a new city, such as with our UCDC program, having to purchase professional work clothes, or giving up paid employment to participate in an internship is a barrier for some students. Your gift to the Teaching + Learning Commons can provide scholarships to offset some of these costs.
Teaching Excellence
UC San Diego is home to an incredibly talented pool of faculty and graduate students — top scholars who lead labs while solving society’s most pressing problems. The Teaching + Learning Commons works with UC San Diego educators to inspire and advance teaching excellence through evidence-based, learner-centered, and equitable teaching practices.
Your gift could help fund teaching and learning research by providing course release costs for UC San Diego faculty. Or, your gift could provide mentors for in Summer Graduate Teaching Scholars program, which provides classes and guided instruction for first-time graduate student instructors. How to Give
