Markia Herron

Senior Instructional Designer

Markia Herron is a Senior Instructional Designer with the Teaching and Learning Commons. She specializes in creating engaging, student-centered online courses and collaborating with faculty to integrate effective instructional strategies across various disciplines.

Markia earned her graduate degree in Learning Systems Technology - Instructional Design from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and her undergraduate degree in Industrial Technology from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Prior to joining UC San Diego, Markia worked at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for seven years, where she collaborated with faculty to design and develop online courses across a range of disciplines and programs. She co-led the creation of the university’s Course Quality Assurance Program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at elevating course standards, supporting faculty through targeted training, and establishing a consistent framework for evaluating and enhancing course design.

Markia is passionate about fostering inclusive, high-quality learning environments that empower both students and instructors. She brings a collaborative approach to her work, engaging faculty in meaningful partnerships to create impactful and accessible online education.
