Portia Tseckares Restuccia

Assistant Supplemental Instruction Coordinator

Portia is the Assistant Supplemental Instruction Coordinator at the Teaching and Learning Commons. As an undergraduate, Portia served as a Supplemental Instruction Leader at the TLC for over 1700 individual students holding sessions ranging from one student to over 100 students. Over her years with the program she moved into student leadership roles as a Course Leader for the Physics, Math, and Summer Bridge Teams and later served as the Student Supplemental Instruction Coordinator. She has also helped develop programs to support students in math placement testing for entry level math and vector calculus for transfer students, assisted with RAFT Week through OASIS’s Summer Bridge Program to teach soft skills to incoming freshmen, and spearheaded embedded discussion support for the UCSD Physics Department. These experiences helped her discover her passion for working in higher education and assisting in student success through peer education and holistic support. She hopes to continue supporting UCSD students and student employees in her role as Assistant Supplemental Instruction Coordinator.

Portia earned her B.S. in Applied Mathematics and B.A in Political Science from UC San Diego in 2023. Originally from the Northeast, both New York and Massachusetts, Portia fell in love with the much better weather of San Diego. In her free time Portia tutors high school math students, teaches fencing through UCSD Recreation, and plays fetch with her cat (yes, cat) Phoebe.
